About Me

Hello! I am Naomi White, artist and educator. I grew up in Los Angeles with no TV, surrounded by film stars, directors, and producers. My mother was an English literature professor who insisted we read books and play imaginary games instead of watching movies. I felt on the outside of many peer conversations not knowing who Princess Leah was for example, but it did create a strong interior world.  

In college at SF State University I studied film, art, literature and politics which led me to New York, where I attended SVA for graduate school in photography and related media. 

In New York, surrounded by musicians in the punk scene circa 2000, I began photographing bands and fellow artists. Drawing from a diverse background in art history, film, and literature, I often found a narrative thread  to commercial work, paying close attention to personality, expression, color, and light. This trajectory led me to photograph people and  things for clients and brands, which influence my fine art practice in photography, collage and teaching.
